Artist Statement
Hi, I'm Ashley Beebe, a Texas-based, self-taught collage artist and lifelong daydreamer. I've never been one to settle for dull or ordinary; instead, I seek the extraordinary.
My art is a fantasy world representing a distinct perspective and obsession with pop culture from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s, my favorite decades. Full of whimsy, seductive characters, chaotic scenes, and always a little humor.
A unique journey from NFL Agent to artist
Like my art, I juxtapose worlds and things that often don't collide. For instance, I'm an athlete turned artist. My youth was spent focusing on my athletic endeavors, which led me to TCU, where I was a track and field team member. Upon graduating, I attended Texas Tech School of Law and continued to follow my passion for sports by becoming the youngest certified female NFL agent.
I spent the next decade representing over 30 NFL players, but eventually, the fast-paced demands of the job caused me to lose interest and burn out. Hence, I left to find my next adventure.
Finding a new passion
Discovering my skills as an artist came in adulthood. However, creativity and imaginative storytelling are things I have always been known best for by those closest to me. This, coupled with my childhood love for scrapbooking and a collection of vintage paper pop culture relics, led me to uncover my love for collage art. I started cutting up old papers and making surrealist collages. Over time, my imagination and passion for my work allowed my process and technique to evolve.
Today, my art consists of two collections. My PIECES Collection was created using tiny scraps of vintage paper, I’ve hand-torn and reassembled to form a bold, cohesive image from afar, but up close, hidden details reveal themselves - pictures, song lyrics, patterns, and more retro nostalgia. My ICONS collection includes small, hand-cut paper collages made from vintage pop-culture materials, reimagined into new scenes and characters. The originals are then transformed into large-scale works by printing on high-gloss metal and fine art paper.
My work can be viewed and purchased online and in person at Fort Worth boutiques Bette’s and Birdie, located on Camp Bowie. I’m excited about this journey and humbled that others want to share it with me, who enjoy my work as much as I do. Thank you for visiting my site and learning more about me and my art.
